Great guide, Joe! I used to work as a gardener in the UK, so I am familiar with a lot of the information. What a huge variety of zones you have over in the US.
I currently live in the huge city of Ankara- the Turkish capital. I am limited to a small balcony here- but it is tricky to grow anything as summer and winter can be pretty severe. One of those seasons usually knocks out my plants. 😩
Thanks Simon. I know of Ankara from an historical perspective, but I’ve never thought about the climate of that city. So, I had to look it up. Turns out, you have a “Cold Semi-Arid” climate under the Köppen climate classification. That’s cold, snowy winters, hot, dry summers, and some rainfall in spring and fall. That’s similar to the northern half of our interior west (between the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Rockies). Much of that is USDA Zone 7. I’m not sure how you can make use of that information, but it’s a fun way to compare “extreme” gardens.

I love that you translated that over to an American equivalent! Perhaps there might be a plant list I can track down for that zone.
